Prop 8 supporters have 6 days to prove if lifting ban will cause harm

Prop 8 supporters have 6 days to prove if lifting ban will cause harm

by Joey Grant

Stay or No Stay, many news sources are reporting two side two today's ruling of Judge Walker. He denied the motion to stay his judgment pending appeal. This means that even though this case will crawl up the judicial system, same- sex couple will be able to marry on August 18th, Unless supporters can get the Ninth Circuit to uphold a stay marriage and prove "harm" which seems very unlikely The announcement came ?after ?lawyers, Gov. Schwarzenegger and Attorney General Jerry Brown filed legal motions to immediately start Friday asking that same-sex marriages be allowed to resume immediately.

"As it appears at least doubtful that proponents will be able to proceed with their appeal without a state defendant, it remains unclear whether the Court of Appeals will be able to reach the merits of proponents' appeal," Walker wrote.

"In light of those concerns, proponents may have little choice but to attempt to convince either the governor or the attorney general to file an appeal to ensure jurisdiction." ( which they already want marriage to start for this cash strapped state.)

So now we move forward and our fight continues, until we all get equal rights. We can not call this the fight for gay marriage, its a fight for marriage, its a fight to honor the constitution. It's not called inter-racial marriage, when two different races marry its called marriage. Its not a separate right, it's not a different right, it's the same right every American should receive. We are a divided nation, until we are all equal, we are lying to ourselves, and this country will not be free until we are all free to marry.

Thank you! Mr Ted Olson

Thank you Mr. Ted Olson. Thank you for representing us, as a conservative and a individual who truly understands the constitution and the 14th amendment.

Vital Bridges, at the forefront of the battle against HIV/AIDS

Vital Bridges, at the forefront of the battle against HIV/AIDS
by T. Nichole Sayers
Since being established in 1988, the organization Vital Bridges has been a leader in fighting the AIDS epidemic in Chicago. Vital Bridges was originally known as Open Hands, a group of volunteers who prepared home cooked meals for patients dying of AIDS. Since 1988, the organization has grown tremendously. It's first step was to move to a hospital based organization that was able to provide more meals to more AIDS stricken individuals. With the advancement in HIV/AIDS treatment, Vital Bridges was able to move out of the hospital setting and into a grocery service that provided food to patients that were now able to live with AIDS. Following a merger with 3 AIDS organizations in 2002, Vital Bridges became a metropolitan wide organization, with 3 locations in the city and 2 in the suburbs, that now provides a continuum of services – meals, counseling, housing, prevention services, and case management.

The recession has impacted Vital Bridges in a number of ways. Not only are the goods and services provided increasing in cost, but less money is coming in. With the country focused on the economic downturn and loss of jobs, HIV/AIDS has vanished from the spotlight. The one this that holds Vital Bridges together is it's volunteers. Through good times and bad, the community involvement at Vital Bridges has been the glue that holds the organization together.

Please join Mint Male and K Dock Team on Saturday, July 24th at the Crimson Lounge at 333 N. Dearborn for a White Party benefit for Vital Bridges. Non-perishable food items will be accepted and given to Vital Bridges pantries. The event begins at 10 pm.

The annual Chicago AIDS walk/run will be held October 2nd at Grant Park. Please join the Vital Bridges Team and help raise money for a fantastic organization in need of your support.

YAY for DC! I love that town

AP – WASHINGTON D.C.'s highest court has ruled against opponents of the city's same-sex marriage law, saying they cannot ask voters to overturn it.

Opponents had wanted to challenge a law that took effect in Washington in March allowing same-sex couples to marry. They attempted to get approval to put an initiative on the ballot asking city voters to define marriage in the city as between one man and one woman. But city officials balked, saying a district human rights law barred initiatives that would authorize discrimination.

On Thursday, the D.C. Court of Appeals ruled 5-4 that officials had the authority to keep the measure off the ballot and acted appropriately.

Where have all the Cowgirls gone?

We are at the midpoint between Pride and Market Days and Boystown is booming! It is also the pinnacle of LGBTQ inclusiveness…. right? The neighborhood is paaa-aa-aacked with bars that cater to men, but not one single full-time lesbian establishment. Why for? Is there even a lesbian presence in Boystown anymore? What happened to Andersonville?? Some people say that we're dispersing faster than the oil in the Gulf…
Here's a list of the major bars in Boystown:
Berlin.
Spin.
Circuit.
Minibar.
Scarlet.
Hydrate.
The Closet.
Roscoe's.
Sidetrack.
The Lucky Horseshoe.
Cocktail.
Atmosphere.
Big Chicks.
Forgive me if I've missed one!
Can anyone name ONE of those that caters solely to women and have a special 'Males Only' night? No.
Even the "Lesbian" bars Spin and Circuit don't cater to women on a regular basis. ?There are even rumors that some clubs dont even want lesbians in them. Why? I shower daily, I like to have a good time with friends and my girlfriend. My money spends the same as anyone else's – WHY don't I have a place to call my own?
Answer that for me.
UPDATE: I found a mostly women bar, which I've never heard of and never been to, but it ISN'T in Boystown or even in Chicago!
It's in Forest View, IL and it's creatively named 'Forest View Lounge' but is also known as the 'Rainbow Lair'. A little fun fact: It's open on sundays when the Bears play football! Woo. Hoo. Not to knock it, I'm sure it's a great bar, but darts, pool, and an overload of neon beer signs is not really my thing…
